For those of you who were touched by our recent blog post about the amazing Engels family, please spend another few moments with us. We have more photos to share, and we hope that you are again blessed, encouraged, and challenged.
Rich put together the unbelievable fusion slideshow below, blending our still shots with some video that we took during our time with the Engels. These photos are from the end of our session, when the family spent time cutting Christi’s hair before the chemotherapy could take it from her. Kenny had his head shaved right along with her, and his love for her could not be more beautiful or inspiring.

If marriages could win ‘Gold Medals’ – this is truly the one. Kenny’s admiration & love for his precious wife is evident in every expression in his face when he looks at her, in return that devotion and love is given back to him. Just when you think they’ve given all their love to each other, you see their eyes when they look at their sweet daughters and then you realize you are actually witnessing a perfect example “Christ-like” love.

The last time I saw you at Ryan & Jessie’s wedding, Christi, you were “sporting” the same hairstyle – and you were even more beautiful without hair than with it! Looking at your story reminds me of the similar breast cancer journey we took just a few years ago. It was and is an incredible one. Jesus’ sweetness makes it all worthwhile, doesn’t it. I still remember the feel of the warmth of His breath on my cheek as I went thru the most difficult days of diagnosis and treatment. Your eyes reveal that ya’ll have had similar encounters and that His presence is palpable!

Thank you for sharing this story. According to the book I’m reading now, The Shack, this life is only the anteroom of a greater reality to come. It is only preparation for what God has in mind. However, I still do not understand why this is happening to such a beautiful family. I suppose it’s not place to judge why. Love will win out.

Ok – so this young, beautiful, comforting woman was not a teacher at CCS while I was a student there (1976-1982) but let me tell you, OMG!!! What I would have loved to have had her! This family has been in my prayers as well as the prayers of our Ladies’ Class at my church! God certainly has wonderful things in store for this family.

My boys met you at surf camp last summer and couldn’t stop talking about the Engels family. They came home and were busily making plans to go to Tennesee to visit you all. The first post about this family had me in tears, but this post, I don’t even know how to respond. The video is unbelievable. This family is unbelievable. Their love for each other and for the Lord is so inspiring. I pray that the Lord gives them peace that passes all understanding during this difficult time, that he will bring them even closer together, and that there will be no doubt in their hearts about how deep and unspeakable Christ’s love is for them.

I’m so thankful to my friend, Diane, for sharing your story and this link with me. I haven’t cried like this in a long time. We have never met. I also live on Signal Mountain and I have two daughters at Nolan. I am friends with Holly Wood and I will be participating in the Relay for Life this year.
